My fiancé and I have been together for over a year now. We have sex two times a day, everyday. Is it healthy to have so much sex?

The Love Doctor® Answers:
It is wonderful that you and your fiancé are enjoying an active sex life together. You can answer whether having so much sex is unhealthy, by asking yourself how your sex life affects the other aspects of your life -- like your job responsibilities, your family visits, time with friends or the food you eat .

Any behavior, including how often you have sex in your relationship, becomes unhealthy only when it begins to consume the rest of your life. When you can’t eat, drink or sleep unless you have sex. For example, if one of you is tired, stressed out or has to work late at the office because of a deadline, are you OK that a day goes by without sex? Are you able to travel for a week with friends without going through sex withdrawal? If sex doesn’t occur one day, it is important that you are able to communicate with each other. You can’t take it personally or that your relationship is in trouble.

Also, be sure to have realistic expectations about how your sex life might change in the future. Studies show that for most couples, the passion and excitement begin to decline after about 12 to 18 months together. The sex also becomes less frequent when the passion declines. This isn’t the case for all couples, but for many, time does affect passion and romance. And there is a very logical reason for this.

At the beginning of a relationship, passionate love and sexuality are high because everything is new and stimulating. You are learning interesting and exciting information about your partner every day, which fuels the passion and sexual excitement. But, as time goes by, you begin to see the imperfections in your special someone. What’s more, the element of surprise is now gone.

So for now, it sounds great! Enjoy yourself.
