Look your best by getting in shape. eDiets has 23 different programs that can help. Pick one that best suits your preferences and needs by clicking here . If I ever meet Allen -- the inventor of the Allen Wrench -- I will give him a big hug. Why? Because that little piece of contorted metal can make assembly of pretty much any piece of furniture quick and easy. We've all been there. That easy-assembly desk you ordered had a 90-page instruction manual; that picture you were going to hang has been sitting on the ground for a few weeks; and that mirror still sits a little crooked. Tools are only intimidating if you don’t know how to use them! Here is a list of some handy tools to have around the home…just in case! The Allen Wrench -- It is included with probably 99 percent of all pieces of furniture that need assembly. They come in many different sizes (all shaped like an L), and are used to twist in Allen screws. Keep the Allen wrenches that you acquire -- never know when you might need them. The Hammer and the Stud Finder -- The hammer is a classic -- and one of the most useful tools around. The standard weight for a hammer is 14 to 18 ounces. A 14-ounce hammer should be sufficient for typical at-home use. Hang pictures, hammer in that belt-rack or pop out any unwanted nails (using the reverse head). The key here is not to slam the hammer down. Slow, smooth taps work best. And don’t forget the stud finder! The electric stud finder is easy to use: simply place the gadget against the wall, and it will beep when it finds a stable place to insert a nail! The Tape Measure -- This tool will be handier than you may think! First, you can use it when you are ordering that fabulous dress on eBay, and you can’t remember your waist measurement. It's also helpful when you need to hang that painting or figure out if that couch will fit in the living room. Make sure you get one that has the automatic hold and return, which lets you stop and go as you please. Twenty-five feet should be sufficient for typical use. Set of Screwdrivers -- Screwdrivers are used to tighten or loosen screws, and they come in many shapes and sizes. The handiest ones are the Phillips head screwdriver (with an X-shape at the top) and the flat-head screwdriver. Adjustable Wrench -- Invest in this good all-in-one tool that can adjust to any bolt head or nut (different types of screws). |
