Libido Herbs for Sexual Healing :

Aug 25, 2007

If you’ve ever had your libido go on sabbatical without warning, then you’re not alone. According to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, 43 percent of American women have experienced sexual problems, including low libido.

There are a number of reasons why women experience low sex drive, including hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiencies, fatigue and endocrine disorders, to name a few. The good news is there are also a number of natural herbs that can not only boost your libido, but also lift your overall mood and energy levels.

Asian Ginseng
Many herbalists are starting to recommend Asian Ginseng (a.k.a. Panax) to help increase sexual energy in women. It’s been used in China as a sexual balancer and revitalizing tonic for more than 7,000 years. Panax is known to have a stimulating and restorative effect on the body , improving physical and mental energy, stamina, strength, alertness and concentration. But it also normalizes hormonal imbalances and improves blood flow to the genitals. The typical dose is a half-teaspoon or so of tincture in juice.
Caution: This herb is not for people who have high blood pressure.

Ginkgo Biloba
Many people are familiar with ginkgo biloba and use it to enhance their memory. It works by boosting blood flow to the brain, but few people realize that it also increases blood flow to the genitals. In men, it’s been known to help maintain an erection. In women, it increases arousal and desire by stimulating the vaginal area. Some combine ginkgo biloba with Asian Ginseng for a more potent libido concoction. The recommended dosage is from 40 to 60 milligrams, up to three times a day.
Caution: It’s well-tolerated, but check with your doctor if you’re taking medication.

Maca
Maca is a root herb found in the highest parts of the Andes Mountains in Peru, where the earth is among the most barren in the world. Yet it’s documented that by eating maca, the Incas maintained extraordinary health for thousands of years. Peruvians have long since praised it as a potent aphrodisiac. Research shows that maca feeds our body’s main glands, correcting hormonal health issues and restoring the libido energy in the process. Best of all, it increases virility in both women and men. Recommended dosage is two to three capsules, several times daily. In tincture form, 30 to 40 drops, several times a day is the norm.
Caution: Maca is extremely safe and is actually a vegetable root. However, if you experience side effects, discontinue use.
