Every day you’re faced with choices that make the difference between a size 6 and 16. People don’t get fat overnight. One big blowout won’t undo a week’s worth of healthy eating .

I’m sure you’ve seen those "naturally" thin people who seem to eat whatever they like, and never gain weight. I bet you dollars to doughnuts their usual diet is healthy and moderate and that they stay active. But I bet they also overeat occasionally.

It’s the day-to-day stuff that’s important. Ask yourself the following questions -- be honest in your replies.

1. You’re at the office (or at school) and someone brings in a box of doughnuts. You:
a. Eat one doughnut
b. Eat two doughnuts
c. Forget about it! You already had your cereal and milk for breakfast

2. You have an exercise bicycle (treadmill, stair stepper) in your house (basement, bedroom, television room). You use it:
a. Every day
b. Twice a day
c. Once or twice a week
d. As a clothes rack.

3. When it’s time for lunch, do you:
a. Eat, because it’s time to eat
b. Wait, because you’re not hungry

4. What’s a “normal” sized serving of meat?
a. 3 to 4 ounces
b. 5 to 7 ounces
c. 8 to 10 ounce
d. More than 12 ounces

5. How many times a week do you eat out for lunch?
a. More than three times
b. Only once or twice
c. Never -- I bring my lunch
d. I don’t bother eating lunch

6. Your gym membership is about to end. Over the past year, you’ve used it:
a. Often, at least twice a week
b. Occasionally, maybe once a week
c. Forget about it! What a waste. This year you’ll be better!

7. You’re traveling for business and stuck in the airport. You:
a. Grab a burger, fries and a diet coke
b. Eat pizza and beer
c. Get a salad with chicken
d. Don’t sweat it; you’ve brought a sandwich and water.

8. Your dog needs to go out. You:
a. Let him out the back door
b. Put on the leash and take him outside
