Have a Back-Up Fitness Plan :

Aug 16, 2007

When it comes to excuses for failing to exercise, I’m the winner. Some of my best excuses are:

  • "I’m kitten-sitting for a three-week-old kitty who lost its mommy. I have to feed it with a nursing bottle every two hours, so I don’t have time to drive anywhere to exercise."

  • "The weather is too nice to be cooped up in a gym today. I'm going to the beach with my current read."

  • "It's not safe to go to the gym: the snow drifts are higher than Frosty the Snowman’s hat!" (This one, you're storing up for a few months down the road.)

If those excuses sound familiar, I’ve got good news for those of you who are really ready to shape up : There are plenty of energetic options for burning up those excess calories!

    On the Road Again?
Whether it’s business travel or family fun that puts you in a car, train or plane and off to a hotel or relative’s home, you can still enjoy exercise . Research has shown that the key is exercising for a total of 30 to 60 minutes a day, and it does NOT have to be done in a single daily session. Breaking up your workouts into several “mini-sessions” can be just as beneficial to your health and that waistline!

Get in shape fast with one of eDiets 24 personalized plans. Our fitness pros and expert nutritionists will help you devise the best plan for YOU! Click here to get started with a free diet profile today!

Turn your exercise into a family activity! Invite everyone (even Great Uncle Fred) to go for a walk to the park, or pack up nieces and nephews and take them with you to the roller skating rink. Everyone’s a winner ! (If it’s a business trip, you just may find a colleague or customer who would love to join you on a vigorous hike-and-work action-packed afternoon.)

Choose a hotel with a health club or fitness room on-site. An increasing number of hotels throughout the world are tuning into consumers’ desire for fitness. If the hotel lacks such a facility, ask about a nearby gym (Tip: Sometimes you’ll even be given a complimentary day or week pass).

Take it with you. We’re talkin’ cords, bands, exercise videos -- all those easily packed, lightweight goodies that can be toted anywhere. If the hotel room lacks a VCR, ask them to bring you one (they’re usually available free or for a small fee). Pop in that video, and get ready to boogie.
