Jul 20, 2007

The secret to successful dieting is eating food you actually enjoy. With eDiets' 24 different plans, one is sure to tickle your tastebuds. Are you ready to eat your way slim? Click here to get started.

Trying to shed a few pounds or maintain a slim figure gets difficult when you're a foodie who loves plopping down to watch a few hours of the Food Network. With shows promoting giant portions you can create in a hurry, it's tempting to chuck the diet for sumptuous creations from the likes of Emeril Lagasse, the Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten, or the Southern belle herself, Paula Deen -- who makes no apologies for mixing in a pound or two of butter here and there, y'all.

It's daunting to embark on a healthy eating plan when you're bombarded by "food porn" on your favorite shows. If you're a true culinarian who loves to bring TV dishes to fruition in your own kitchen, it's frustrating to try to lighten them on your own. So what's a foodie to do? Well, you don't have to forsake your favorite channel or stow away your beloved Cuisinart. With a little research, you can find the perfect programs and recipes to support your plan. Here's what's cooking on the tube and on DVD:

Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger -- This former model-turned-dietitian has major star potential for her down-to-earth style and delicious food that can be prepared in a hurry. Whether you're looking for a dish that's budget-conscious or lavish enough for entertaining, Ellie's got it. Need something that seems a little naughty but isn't? Try whipping up a bowl of Grilled Pineapple with Vanilla Ice Cream and Rum Sauce ! All of the recipes included in this show's section of FoodNetwork.com include nutrition information, so never fear. Just watch your portions, as Ellie will remind you.

Calorie Commando -- Juan-Carlos Cruz, host and former pastry chef, can relate with the struggle to lose weight. On his Web site , he tells his story and estimates his highest weight was somewhere around 250. After realizing that he "overindulged often" on his own creations, he created a unique approach to dieting: enjoying his favorites, but in healthier, low-calorie versions. "Calorie Commando" is all about satisfying cravings in a healthy manner, so eat up -- guilt-free!
