Pregnancy After 35 :

Jun 17, 2007

It's never too soon to think about taking control of your family's health. We can help you make those healthy, everyday choices that mean so much. Click here and get your family on track to a healthy future today.

Remember when it was widely believed that the window for conceiving a baby practically slammed shut in our mid-30s? And doctors practically laughed at women in their 40s who wanted to get pregnant? Well, times are changing. Desperate Housewives' Marcia Cross just gave birth to twins at 44 using in-vitro fertilization. So did Jane Seymour… and they’re not alone. More and more women are using advances in medical technology to have children later in their lives.

But if in-vitro fertilization or artificial insemination is not for you, there are a variety of natural alternative fertility treatments that are showing promise. Aromatherapy
Many doctors will tell you stress is often an underlying culprit behind infertility. In aromatherapy treatment, essential oils are used to help the muscles relax, relieving tension and thereby creating an environment suitable for reproduction. Essential oils can also help regulate your menstrual cycle, which is necessary for fertility as well. The following essential oils are known to be particularly beneficial in helping women get pregnant:

Chamomile – has a calming effect that relieves menstrual pain and helps the entire reproductive system.
Geranium – has estrogenic properties that can help balance the hormones.
Rose – used to regulate the reproductive system; also used to help rid feelings of depression, which can inhibit fertility.
Melissa – a relaxing oil that improves overall mood and helps with menstrual problems.

These oils should never be applied directly to the skin. Instead, use an oil burner to add the scent to the air or dilute it and add a few drops to your bath. Better yet, contact an aromatherapist for proper application.

Herbs
Because they are totally natural, herbs are growing in popularity as a natural option for women trying to conceive. The following herbs are said to be beneficial for helping women get pregnant:

Dong Quai -- can improve implantation of the egg for women with autoimmune problems; also balances estrogen levels and regulates the menstrual cycle.
False Union Root – this herb is said to have a normalizing effect on the ovaries.
Wild Yam – increases the production of progesterone, which improves your chances of getting pregnant.
