What Gives You Character? :Aug 16, 2007
A long time ago, there was a young girl with a gap between her front teeth. This girl absolutely, positively, did not like this gap. Because she did not like the gap between her teeth, she decided to try not to smile. This attempt ended almost immediately, because she was a fairly happy girl. The notion, though, never left her mind. Fast-forward about a year, when said girl is about 10 years old. Through an encounter with an older, much "looked up to" woman, she is told what a great smile she has. The girl couldn’t help but deny such a compliment, declaring that her two front teeth were nowhere near touching, and therefore her smile could not be so great. The woman said to the girl: “But that gives you character. Otherwise, your smile just might be like everyone else’s.” The girl has never forgotten that day. What makes you different makes you special. She loved that statement so much that she carried it over into other areas of her life and her body. That girl is now a bit older and bit wiser (and her teeth are now not only touching but a tad overlapping). She tends to embrace all of her differences with a smile. |
